Hi, my name is Partha. Welcome to my personal website and blog.

How I Stay Motivated

When you don't have a boss, and you can wake up whenever you want every day, it can be hard to stay motivated. There's always the temptation to stay up late one night on Netflix and wake up late the next morning. At the end of the day, you still have to get your work done.

So how do you make sure you do everything you need to do each day? Usually you can get your work done before a deadline, but then you have to clean your place, go to the gym, and run a myriad of errands. This is usually where my motivation fails. It's hard to do all of the things to keep your life running, and build every day with your job.

I've learned that motivational videos don't work for me every day. It's tough to find motivation from the same quotes you've heard every morning for a month. Pump up music is the same way. Slowly my body conditions to ignore it, and I lose the benefits it brings me.

Consistency is the key to prolonged success. Consistency doesn't come from any sort of motivational talk, but it comes from building habits. A University College of London study found that it takes, on average, 66 days to build a habit. That's 66 days that you need motivation to get up and go to the gym. After 66 days, you do it without thinking about it.

So how do I stay motivated to get stuff done? Well the honest answer is I don't really. I only need to be motivated for 66 days whenever I want to add a habit, and motivational music and videos make that happen. After that, you don't even think about it, you just do it.
